Organic, Natural, and Holistic Dog Food – What Does it Mean?

We have all seen or heard of terms – organic, natural, and holistic – on various dog foods and treats. But what does all of it mean? And what is the difference between these different classifications? If you have found yourself confused while navigating these different terms, then you aren’t alone. These labels are present everywhere from treats to food, to flea treatments to shampoo. You need to know what it means before you browse online dog food stores for your beloved pet.

Organic is basically a method of farming wherein crops are farmed on the land that’s chemical-free, free of artificial fertilizers, pesticides, and genetic modifications. For a product to be certified as “organic”, it needs to contain atleast 95 percent organic ingredients. For the product to be considered certified “made using organic ingredients”, it needs to contain atleast 70 percent organic ingredients.

Natural means that the ingredient was grown without using any kind of preservatives, chemical alternations, or additives. Natural pet products, suggests an expert that sells dog products online, aren’t regulated and it might contain some synthetic ingredients. When it comes to pet’s food, the term “natural” being used on labels doesn’t really indicate a lot about the care or feeding of the animals that are used to create that food.

Holistic entails an integrated approach to the complete mind and body, and not simple the definitions as to how the ingredients have been sourced. There are no regulations on how this term could be used for pet’s products and this term could be applied to all products without it meaning anything.
